Welcome to Aquatic Impressions, your source for quality Gyotaku fish art.
Our Gallery contains our ever growing
list of original Gyotaku, as well as our limited edition prints.
Gyotaku [Gyo- meaning fish, and Taku- meaning rubbing or impression] is a
traditional form of fish printing. In the 1800's, fishermen in Japan would
cover a fish with ink and press rice paper onto it. When removed, the exact
mirror image of the fish would remain.
Fred takes this a step further by using acrylic paint and cloth or different
types of handmade paper, to capture as much vivid color and detail as possible.
